Members of 1st Shipston Cub Scouts Group got an introduction to brass music last month when they dropped in for a special masterclass led by Shipston Town Band.
Fifteen cubs took part in the session at the band’s rehearsal room in New Street, Shipston, on Tuesday (25 February). The cubs got a taste of the band’s newly launched Brass Academy, which provides music lessons to anyone wanting to learn a brass instrument.
Town band committee member Sandra Butt said: “We were delighted to welcome the cubs to our brass academy, they seemed to have a great time learning about the different instruments in a brass band – from the cornet to the percussion. Hopefully some of them will take an interest in and maybe join our academy and learn a brass instrument.”
The session was led by Kevin Pitt, a brass teacher who runs the newacademyand provides music lessons to individuals (adults as well as children) wanting to learn to play a brass instrument.
Lessons in the academy are subsidised by Shipston Town Band, so the cost to the student is only £10 per lesson which includes the free loan of an instrument. Anyone interested should email academy@shipstonband.co.uk or phone 07977 544021.
