The former conductor of Shipston Town Band, Peter Stevens, celebrated his 86th birthday last week and was joined by Dave Birch and Dave Clemons with whom he worked closely during his successful period in the 1970s and early 1980s where he shared the conducting duties with Richard Nash. Amongst Peter’s conducting successes was First place at the Leamington Spa Open Contest where he conducted Divertimento (photo below) and 3rd place at the National Brass Band Championships Winter Contest at Wembley where we were placed 3rd out of 18 bands playing Philip Sparke’s Prizewinners. The visit saw a lot of reminiscing and discovering a few interesting memories and photos long forgotten.
